KARACHI - A judicial commission (JC), put in charge of the inquiry into the deaths of cardiac patients from drugs reaction in the Punjab visited the Efroze Pharmaceutical Company here on Saturday.
Comprising a judicial magistrate, FIA officials and members of the Central Drug Laboratory, the commission recorded statements of some of the company’s employees about the changes made in chemical composition of the medication provided to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology, said sources.
The reaction of the changed formula of the medication has devoured more than 135 lives in the Punjab. The suspected drug was distributed to at least 40,000 patients, possibly many more.
It may be mentioned here that the Sindh Health Department sent some samples of IsoTab, made by the Efroze Pharmaceutical Company, to the Industrial Analytical Centre, International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences, Karachi University (KU). But, the lab results are being kept secret by the Health Department.
A few days earlier, the FIA suspended operations of the Efroze Chemical Industries, Korangi.
